New world records in the ongoing TOKYO OLYMPICS

The Olympic Track and Field Competition

A new fastest man. Lamont Marcell Jacobs of Italy sprinted to Olympic gold in the men’s 100-meter dash on Sunday, finishing in 9.80 seconds.

Jamaica’s dominance. Women from Jamaica swept the medals in the 100-meter dash. Elaine Thompson-Herah repeated as the Olympic champion, followed by Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson.

A new record in hurdles. In one of the most anticipated head-to-head showdowns of the Games, Sydney McLaughlin set another world record, beating her closest rival and the defending gold medalist, Dalilah Muhammad, in the women’s 400-meter hurdles by a razor-thin 0.12 seconds.

A special track. The Olympic stadium has been outfitted with the world’s fastest track. The springy surface at Olympic Stadium in Tokyo has been compared to a trampoline. “You can feel the bounce,” one runner said. Expect records to be broken here.
